Hi everyone

I just picked up a Makora II in trade. The story is that it was made and sold by a MT employee, and is sterile. What do you think?

Second, what's the difference, and timing, between Makora and Makora II? Just curious

Thanks.

OK, I'll take a stab at this one:

The Makora came out in 2003. It was basically a DE UT6 with a 3.5" blade. Most came with dual GBD's, skate tape inserts, and cost ~$100 more than the UT's at the time. The handle length was very slightly longer due to a chevron extension over the blade slot to better accommodate the DE blade. There were also some Executive Makoras w/o the inserts and a few Custom versions with exotic inserts and HG/HP blades.
There's at least one very rare Superlight version that was all CF, with a CF clad Titanium blade and Ti hardware. Feather light...

The Makora II's came out in 2008. They were longer and came with CF inserts, a 4.5" blade, and a single GBD. The first run had a diamond shaped design of small holes in the blade base. Due to concerns with this being a weakness, it was discontinued in later models. They all have solid blades.
Some Limited Custom versions were released from to time with partially brushed Al handles, exotic inlays, and HG/HP blades.

Yours isn't strictly "Sterile" as it has lettering on the standard generic MT clip, though w/o any reference to Makora.  And the story about the former employee selling it unfortunately lends some suspicion to the knife, as a former MT employee (Tim Flynn) was taken to court by the company for selling knives he claimed he retrieved from "dumpster diving" while working for MT.

That's what I remember off the top of my head. I'm sure others have some more info to add...

Great info, thanks very much.
Disturbed about the Tim Flynn story though...not for care of him, just selfish on my part- wonder is my knife is a TRUE Microtech? I suppose there is no way of knowing for sure????

Without any proof one way or the other, I'd accept it as a regular Makora II. With a generic clip... [smile]
