Hi guys, I've just rejoined here after a few years away. Good to be back.[smile]
I recently picked up another nice 99%mint 1997 tanto SOCOM from the good old days.
Love the grind on the original tantos.

This is the first MA version I've seen that has a blade pivot area that's milled for an auto.
Has anyone come across this before?
I pulled it apart to tweak the action a bit and was surprised to see the cutout in the blade pivot area and the stepped pivot bushing etc.

I have a few m/a Socoms that I've had apart and I have not seen any additional machining other than what is cut for the spring washer

That's a nice DA there mate. I jumped all over this Socom at ACK when I saw it - they rarely come up for sale in good nick these days.
The handle on mine is standard MA - just the  blade itself has the heavily milled pivot hole/groove- you can see it in the patent pic second from bottom here

Ah, milling in the blade...I just pryed apart my d/a to take a peak.....ur right about the m/a Socoms ..and specifically these tanto models, not up for sale that often...and the price on yours was pretty fair ...I would have snapped it up myself but I needed to reserve some cash ...an Amphibian popped up for auction on EBay 6 days ago and I wasn't sure how high the bid would go ...I ended up winning it today...I'll post a pic when I get it ..it's also a m/a...

It's a shame we have lost all the old threads from the 90's and early 2000's. I'm glad I printed off a heap of informative posts back in the day and saved some pics.
enjoy the Amphibian, it's an under Rated model IMHO.

Favorite Tanto. Have a P/E of each from 97.
